ATLAS / PLANET
Earth
Start with the whole planet. 4PLANET ATLAS brings public planetary data into one shared interface so a person can move from Earth-scale context towards places, species, events and human systems.
Why it matters
Planetary data is often fragmented across specialist services. This object gives a human-readable entry point into the existing ATLAS without hiding where the underlying data comes from.
Current / available data
- NASA Blue Marble as the stable global base view
- Daily or near-daily NASA imagery and scientific layers where the source supports it
- Biodiversity, ocean, land, climate, event and human-system layers inside the same ATLAS
Sources
- NASA Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) — Source documentation for the Blue Marble and NASA imagery layers used by ATLAS.
Limitations
- The map is an interface over multiple sources with different coverage and update cadences.
- A visible layer is not automatically live or complete.
- Absence of a record or signal is not evidence of ecological absence.
