ATLAS / EARTH SIGNAL
Global Fires
See where recent heat signals are being detected across the planet, then inspect them in the shared ATLAS alongside other planetary layers.
Why it matters
Fire information spreads quickly and is easy to overstate. 4PLANET keeps the signal and the interpretation separate: satellite thermal anomalies show detected heat, while source-reported event feeds describe events under their own definitions.
Current / available data
- NASA GIBS MODIS Terra thermal-anomaly imagery used by the existing global ATLAS fire layer
- NASA EONET source-reported open natural-event records in the existing ATLAS event layer
- Direct comparison with other ATLAS context such as vegetation, forest loss and Earth imagery
Sources
- NASA GIBS API documentation — Source documentation for the MODIS thermal-anomaly imagery used by the ATLAS fire layer.
- NASA EONET v3 documentation — Source documentation for the source-reported natural-event records used by ATLAS.
Limitations
- A thermal anomaly is detected heat, not proof of a wildfire.
- An EONET event marked open is not automatically an active local emergency.
- Cloud, satellite coverage, source latency and source definitions can affect what appears.
